SACC V ICCS - 15 April 2012
SACC batted first in an 8am fixture against the Indian Cricket Club of Saigon on a glorious Sunday morning. Batting with intent the SACC lower order went into the drinks break at 1-60. Mark Ecott lost his wicket for 33 just after the break as the SACC looked to increase the run rate. Ben Daley and Terry Gordon both retired with some clean hitting as the SACC compiled an imposing total of 181.
In response the ICCS openers clobbered the SACC bowlers all around the park and helped by missed chances in the field had 50 on the score board after 4 overs. Although the next 6 overs were not as productive the ICCS were on par at drinks at 0 for 78 with a batsman retired.
Resumption after the break was more of the same and it wasn’t until the 15th over when the 1st wicket fell with the score on 154. Regular wickets fell thereafter as the ICCS maintained the required run rate, which included 4 run outs in the space of 9 balls towards the end. In a tense finish the 182 required was achieved with 3 balls to spare in what was easily the highest scoring match of the season.
Scoreline. SACC 3-181 were defeated by ICCS 8-184. MOM

SACC V SSC - 01 April 2012
The Sri Lanka Sport Club were the SACC‘s opponent on a gloomy April morning. SSC won the toss and inserted SACC in. The gentle breeze kept the rain away and the SACC went to drinks at a solid 1-58. Thereafter some good bowling and excellent catching by SSC restricted the SACC, who were trying to up the run-rate, and after 20 overs 127 was the outcome. SACC Captain Regan Armstrong was the pick of the batsmen with 43.
In reply the SSC started in swashbuckling fashion clearing the rope regularly. But unfortunately the drizzle intensified and when puddles formed on the pitch the umpires took the players off only after 3 overs. The rain eased and played resumed 40 minutes later however after only 1 over the rain returned and the match was declared a washout.
Scoreline. Washout. MOM Nil.
SACC V UCC - 11 March 2012
The United Cricket Club (UCC) won the toss, batted and due to good tight SACC bowling and fielding were restricted to 4 for 62 at drinks. SACC continued the pressure after the break including some good catching to bowl out UCC in the 20th over for a modest total of 123.
The SACC lower order batsmen were solid in their run-a-ball-chase and went to drinks at 1 for 60. However a massive collapse of SACC wickets falling after the break resulted in a disapointing loss with the SACC finishing 7 runs short.
Scoreline. SACC 9-116 were defeated by UCC 123. MOM Chetan.

SACC V ISCS - 04 March 2012
In a top-of-the-table clash the SACC took on the in-form ISCS team. India won the toss, batted and got off to a solid start to go into drinks at 2 for 68. Thereafter the ISCS took on the SACC bowlers with some consistent clean hitting and, assisted by some ordinary SACC fielding, set an imposing total of 190 runs.
In response the SACC were on par at drinks at 2 for 70. However with regular wickets falling after the break and the run rate climbing the SACC chase never really got going. Despite Ben Daley retiring on 43 and some late big hits from Ivan Furtado, who smashed 38 from only 11 deliveries, the SACC finished 38 runs short with 152. Tim Connell was the pick of the SACC bowlers with 2-36.
Scoreline. SACC 7-152 were defeated by ISCS 7-190. MOM Pratap Jettappa.
SACC V PSCC - 26 February 2012
SACC won the toss, asked the opposition to bat, bowled well, but 4 dropped catches helped Pakistan compile a respectable 127 total.
In response SACC openers Chris Robinson and skipper Regan Armstrong established a match winning partnership and at the drinks break the SACC were 0-97 with Robinson retiring on 43. A flurry of wickets ensued after the break with the SACC chasing a bonus point win, and just fell short of achieving that, but knocked off the runs early in the 17th over for a 5 wicket victory. Tim Connell was the pick of the SACC bowlers with 3-30.
Scoreline. SACC 5-128 defeated PSCC 8-127. MOM Chris Robinson.
SACC V PSCC - 12 February 2012
On a splendid afternoon for cricket the SACC won the toss and batted first against Pakistan in a rescheduled washout match from early this season. SACC openers Chris Robinson and Mark Ecott started solidly and at the drinks break the score was 2 for 66. Assisted by some loose bowling after the break Robinson retired on 40 and the SACC middle order led by Ben Daley pushed the score to a formidable total of 160.
In reply PSCC were cavalier in their chase maintaining the required run-rate although wickets fell regulary.
At the drinks break they were competitively placed at 5-70. On resumption the PSCC suffered a huge collapse due to some poor running between the wickets and excellent bowling from Mark Ecott (4/19). As a result the PSCC lost their last 5 wickets for only 9 runs providing the SACC a bonus point 81 run victory.
Scoreline - SACC 2/160 defeated PSCC 79. MOM Mark Ecott.
SACC V ECCS - Ashes - 11 February 2012
The Ashes matches are a feature of the regular season eagerly anticipated by both clubs. Accordingly it was no surprise that over 60 people attended the special Saturday afternoon fixture.
The Poms won the toss, batted, and although losing some early wickets rallied after the drinks break to post a competitive 121. Justin Wheatcroft top scored for the ECCS with a fine 42.
All the SACC bowlers contributed with the ball assisted by a good team effort in the field.
In reply SACC openers Chris Robinson and Regan Armstrong batted with skill and purpose and at the 10 over drinks break SACC were cruising at 1/72 with Robinson retiring on 40. Two quick wickets shortly after slowed down the run rate, but the SACC middle order thereafter knocked off the runs with 10 balls to spare for a 7 wicket victory.
A closer match than the final margin suggests played in traditional good spirit.
Scoreline - SACC 3/124 defeated ECCS 8/121. MOM Chris Robinson.
SACC V SSC - 08 January 2012
If one match was going to really kick-start the SACC season it was this one against table leaders, the Sri Lankan Sports Club.
Asked to bowl first the SACC made inroads with some tight bowling taking 4 wickets conceding 68 runs at the drinks break.
In the next 10 overs the SACC turned the screws taking wickets regularly whilst restricting the SSC to a modest total of 114 all out.
Following the main break the SACC's reply got to off to a very solid start with Cade Armstrong once again in sublime form retiring with 43 and at drinks SACC were 2 for 73.
Shortly after the break a few wickets fell slowing the rate but the target was achieved without much fuss from the 1st ball of the last over for a 5 wicket victory.
A fantastic bowling display by all was the impetus in a BIG win for the SACC in their defense of the VCA title.
Scoreline - SACC 5/115 defeated SSC 114. MOM Cade Armstrong.
SACC V ICCS - 01 January 2012
A bold fixture on New Years day was a successful outing for the SACC against the ICCS team. Batting first the SACC were off to a cautious start and were 3-57 at the drinks break.
Thereafter Cade Armstrong and Ben Daley decided to launch an assault with some clean hitting and both retired with 40 odd. This setup the lower order to have a real swing and when the dust had settled there was 164 on the board.
The Indian team never really got going in their chase losing wickets regularly against some tight bowling and together with 6 outfield catches the SACC recorded a comfortable (bonus point) 90 run victory.
Bill Crang was the pick of the SACC bowlers with 4 for 17 although Cade Armstrong’s miserly return of 1 for 6 early in the ICCS innings made their chase very difficult.
Scoreline - SACC 4/164 defeated ICCS 74. MOM Cade Armstrong.
SACC V UCC - 04 December 2011
With the clear weather arriving the SACC finally got to play a VCA League match although the result was not a great start to the SACC season. A combination of excellent UCC bowling and some poor SACC shot selections resulted in the SACC’s lowest innings total (80 runs) for many years. Despite a gallant SACC defense with the ball, which provided a somewhat tense finish, the total was never enough to avoid a 2 wicket defeat.
Well played to UCC who continue to be the SACC's bogey team. SACC skipper Regan Armstrong top scored with 15 and Ben Daley was the pick of the SACC bowlers with 3 for 21. Scoreline - SACC 80 were defeated by UCC 8/81. MOM Steve Miekle.
20 November 2011 - SSC too slick for SACC in friendly
The recent ongoing inclement weather has meant abandoned matches and training for most clubs but when a last minute organized practice match was possible both Sri Lanka (SSC) and the SACC grabbed the chance to finally play some cricket. The lack of training was evident for the SACC boys with the SSC (who apparently have been training throughout the off-season) restricting the SACC to 157 and then proceeded to chase down the runs well inside the required overs.

SACC IN SINGAPORE
13-14 August 2011. SACC made their annual pilgrimage to Singapore for a weekend of competitive cricket. The tour was cast under a dark cloud before a ball was even bowled when it was revealed that airline pilot Kristian Ellingsen had booked his flight for the following weekend. It was immediately apparent that his contribution to the two matches would be limited.
On Friday night the Singapore Misfits played host and treated the tourists to a meal and beers before the players from both teams hit the Singapore streets.
Saturday’s game, the first of two, was a 30 over match against the Misfits. SACC, batting first, amassed 244 for 8. The innings was highlighted by a chanceless and classy knock of 126 by allrounder Cade Armstrong (see SACC club records). Opener, Terry Gordon, after watching his opening partner, Peter Brown be unluckily run out for nought, contributed with 30 runs and skipper, Regan Armstrong chipped in with a quick 40. Forced with chasing down this impressive total, the Misfits scored at a good clip until being dismissed 20 runs short in the 28th over. SACC bowlers Rob Gayst, Mark Ecott and Cade Armstrong all chipped in with the ball. Perhaps an indication of the previous night’s festivities the SACC were below their best in the field, dropping a number of catches. Even the normally secure Peter brown was not immune from the dropsies.
After another night out with the Misfits the SACC had to try and do it all again on the Sunday against the Singapore Cricket Club Invitational XI at Dempsey Field. Once again controversy reigned before a ball was even bowled when veteran opener Peter Brown, clearly miffed, by the umpire’s decision from the previous game, refused to take the field until an hour into the match.
This time SACC fielded first and against a strong batting line up, struggled to contain the SCC who eventually scored 269 in their 30 overs. Again Cade Armstrong and Mark Ecott were the best of the bowlers with the latter picking up 4 wickets in a great spell. In reply SACC lost wickets at regular intervals before eventually scoring 245-8 in their 30 overs. Rob Gayst and Cade Armstrong along with Khan, a loan player from the Misfits, all contributed handy runs. But the star with the bat was undoubtedly Mark Ecott who struck a belligerent half century in a man of the match performance.
Both games were played with cricket being the real winner…except in the first game where the SACC was undoubtedly the winner
In August we have our annual tour to Singapore! Two games over the weekend versus our old friends The Misfits and a game on The Padang versus The SCC (Singapore Cricket Club). This is a real honour and is truly one of the best cricket venues in the world.
Anyone interested in going needs to show an expression of interest by the end of June. After which, a firm commitment will be sought. We will need to confirm the bookings with our hosts so need to know early if we can field a team or not.
Club captain Regan Armstrong is in charge of rounding up the touring party so please let him know as soon as possible regan.arm@hotmail.com
Non-players are encouraged to attend.

SACC V PSCC - 22 MAY 2011

SACC V SSC - 15 MAY 2011 The undefeated SACC season was thwarted by Sri Lanka on Sunday when their all-round ability proved too much winning by 3 wickets.

Terry Gordon was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 25.

surpassed in league points on top of the table and are now the 2010/11 season VCA Champions!
In a one-sided match the SACC were too strong for a spirited Indian team winning by 37 runs.
SACC won the toss, batted, and after a slow start went to drinks at a worrying 4-45. Mark Ecott and Tim Connell turned the match around each scoring a quick 35 and the tail put on some runs to post a competitive 156 total. India were on target after 14 overs until they lost their last 5 wickets for 20 runs and ended up well short.
Best of the SACC bowlers was Tim Connell who capped off a great match with 4-17 Scoreline - SACC 7/156 defeated ISCS 119. MOM Tim Connell.
SACC V PSCC - 17 APRIL 2011 The SACC's first look at the Pakistan team this season who had recently defeated the unbeaten Sri Lankan's and were not to be taken lightly. PSCC won the toss, batted and were got off to a solid start at 0-29 until Terry Gordon and Tim Connell picked up a few wickets to expose their middle order who then batted steady to post a competitive 133 total.
In reply SACC openers James Pinkard (30) and Terry Gordon (35) smashed the bowling to all parts of the ground and with help of too many PSCC wides the SACC were 0-70 when Pinkard retired in the 7th over! Darren Mackey then continued the onslaught with 31 off 18 balls to get the SACC home inside 13 overs for a comprehensive 10 wicket victory.
Bill Crang was the pick of the SACC bowlers with 2 for 20.
Scoreline - SACC 0/137 defeated PSCC 8/133. MOM Darren Mackey.
SACC V SSC - 03 APRIL 2011 The SACC's nemesis over the years has been the talented Sri Lankan's and victory in this match would go a long way towards claiming another VCA league title. SSC won the toss, batted and were looking very solid at 0-28 Then Mark Ecott got one to curl in and hit the stumps. The next over Ben Daley, into his 2nd spell, was on a hat-trick and shortly after the SSC were suddenly 4-28. The SSC never really recovered but still finished with a competitive 142 total.
The SACC innings got off to a shakey start and at 3-48 at drinks the challenge lay ahead. Fortunately Cade Armstrong (30) had other ideas and together with Danny Rao (on debut) and skipper Regan Armstrong the SACC made the required runs in the 17th over. A great team effort all-round against quality opposition.
Ben Daley's devastating spell finishing with 3-19 changed the shape of the match and Cade Armstrong's batting was the impetus in the run chase.
Scoreline - SACC 4-143 defeated SSC 5-142. MOM Ben Daley.
